“I know many very well-qualified therapists, people whom I would trust to treat my friends and family, who forget everything they know about human beings once a person with an addiction walks into their offices.” -Lance Dodes, MD
I sure found this to be true too many times. What’s also unfortunate is how even friends and family throw common courtesy, respect of another human being, confidentiality, boundaries. . . so many elements of a caring, supportive relationship to the wind as soon as they decide that “we have an addiction problem”.
